Touchdown Dip

This football dip will score with friends and family!

Football has always had its share of dynamic duos -- star quarterbacks and their receivers like Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison for the Indianapolis Colts, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice for the 49ers back in the mid 1980s, Tom Brady and Mike Evans for the Buccaneers just to name a few.

We took two game day dynamic dipping duos - hummus and pimento and cheese -- and combined them into one for our Touchdown Dip. Take it to a tailgate. Or put it out as the star attraction for any game day snacks and especially Super Bowl!

"A dynamic duo -- hummus and pimento cheese in one!"

First, we made a big batch of Powerhouse Pimento Cheese. We call this Powerhouse Pimento Cheese because you can do so much with it. It's loaded with toasted pecans to make it even better than the run of the mill variety.

We also used a combination of extra sharp cheddar and Swiss to complement the nuttiness of the toasted pecans. (It's better to grate your own cheese if you have time rather than buying it already shredded. The cheese is a little moister and sticks together better when freshly shredded. But the other will work fine if you don't have time.) Once you make the recipe, shape it into a football. Then we took store bought spicy red pepper hummus and spread it over the cheese ball like frosting. Most any smooth hummus will do. For the football seams, simply use one deli slice of Swiss cheese. We used scissors to cut a strip diagonal on it for the vertical longer center one. And then made several short ones for the other seams.

Serve with a basket of crackers, sturdy corn chips or glass jars of celery sticks, fresh red, yellow and green bell peppers. This is one recipe that will go quickly!

If you're looking for other ideas for pimento cheese, we have this Southern staple covered. Maybe try Pecan Pimento Cheese Bruschetta or Pecan Pimento Cheese dip.
