Fast, Flavorful Weeknight Dinner!
On weeknights, I want something quick, easy and flavorful, especially if my husband and I are watching a game at home. Sheet Pan Bratwurst Dinner scores on all accounts. What pairs better than bratwurst and ballgames? Ten minutes of prep and 30 minutes to cook. And no grilling involved.
For this recipe, I used some of the last cherry tomatoes out of my garden (my variety was a purple hue), a slab of feta, some bratwurst and onions. A quick brush of olive oil, a shake of red pepper flakes and onion salt, and it’s ready for the oven.
With one pan to clean, kitchen duty is a breeze.
You may want to add to the meal with a second sheet pan side dish. I scrubbed a couple of sweet potatoes, dried them and put them on another sheet pan in a hot oven.
Bratwurst and ballgames are the perfect combination!
They start cooking while I prep the sheet pan ingredients. Once I’m done with the Bratwurst sheet pan, I slide it on the top rack above the sweet potatoes. That way, it all comes out at the same time. Depending on the size of the potatoes and whether they’re sweet, Russet or Yukon Gold, the potatoes need to cook at least 45 minutes to an hour. If you like your potatoes extra done, let them stay in for more time. (My husband’s happy if a regular baked potato stays in for two hours! He likes them a little tough and dry.)
Another way to use the Sheet Pan Bratwurst is to serve the pan with bread basket of toasted hot dog buns. You could fill another sheet pan of frozen French fries or sweet potato fries if you wanted. Either way, a little spicy or Dijon mustard is great for dipping. Our Horsy Sauce goes well with this meal too.
One tip here…invest in some big heavy duty rimmed sheet pans. You’ll be surprised that it’s a kitchen game-changer! My husband found a set of three at Costco years ago, and they are perfect for my oven. They take up almost the whole rack and having a rim on them makes sure I don’t have any spills from liquid while something’s cooking.
