Orange and Maple French Toast

Brunch just got better!


A luxury that money can't buy...to me that's a leisurely weekend breakfast. No hurrying. Brewing a pot of coffee and letting the scent waft through the kitchen as you grate fresh orange peel for a citrus burst of flavor in French toast.


Orange and Maple French Toast is an easy and fun recipe for kids to make to spoil mom. It's also an economical but lavish platter to whip up for guests. Citrus, cinnamon and crunchy almonds make this one special!

Each ingredient is to add flavor -- real maple syrup, brown sugar with a hint of molasses, We also don't skimp on the bread.


Plain white bread is passable. But challah or brioche bread make this French toast shine. The dense bread holds up under the egg mixture better than regular read and gives it so much more flavor.

Orange and Maple French Toast


Recipe Ingredients

Everything you'll need for this delicious recipe is below.


Serves 6 depending on portion size


1 lb loaf challah bread

6 eggs

1 c half and half

1/2 c plain yogurt

3 T brown sugar

3/4 t salt

1/2 t pepper

1 t almond extract

1 1/2 t vanilla

1 orange (zested and juice to save for later)

1/8 t nutmeg

1/2 t pumpkin spice

1 t cinnamon

1/2 stick butter for browning bread


To garnish:

Maple syrup, melted butter, toasted almonds, orange slices, blueberries



Preparation Instructions


1. Cut challah bread in 10-12 sIices.

2. Zest orange.

3. Mix eggs, half and half, orange zest, spices, extract.

4. Beat with a fork until blended.

5. Soak bread in mixture for a few minutes.

6. In a non-stick pan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter.

7. Place soaked slice of bread. Cook on medium low for 2 minutes.

8. Then turn the bread.

9. Remove from heat and place on a platter.

10. Keep warm.

11. Serve with warm maple syrup, melted butter, toasted almonds, blueberries, orange slices to squeeze juice over top.
